2008 Farm Bill Program: Count Specialty Crops as
Base Acres
A new 2008 Farm Bill Pilot Program will allow farmers to switch acres
to cucumbers, green peas, lima beans, pumpkins, snap beans, sweet corn
and
tomatoes as long as these crops are grown under contract for
processing.

Marketing Tool for Farmers in Central Illinois
Buy Fresh Buy Local (BFBL), is a local foods' campaign to encourage the
community to support local farmers. This includes everyone from
individual consumers to larger buyers, including restaurants and
grocery stores. Through the BFBL campaign, consumers can identify
locally produced foods and farmers can reach new local markets.

Production
Scholarship
Program Application
The Illinois Stewardship Alliance will offer a limited number of $1,000
scholarships to any Illinois student with at least a 2.75/4.0 GPA, who
is
planning to attend or is attending an accredited post-secondary
sustainable agriculture production program during the 2008-2009
academic year. The intent of this scholarship program is to increase
the number of sustainable agriculture farmers in Illinois.
