In response to public concern over the impact of new proposed rules and regulations from raw milk producers and consumers the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) has announced a public comment hearing for Thursday, November 6 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Illinois Building on the Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield.
This an opportunity for farmers and the consumers to get involved and comment on these proposed rules and regulations and the negative impacts they will have on local food systems, small family farmers and the consumer’s right to choose. Our understanding is that everyone who attends will be able to speak.
Illinois Stewardship Alliance is not opposed to rules and regulations, however we strongly believe that the rules and regulations need to be workable, practical, and scale and risk appropriate; IDPH’s proposed rules fall short on all fronts.
Join us on Thursday November 6 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Illinois Building on the Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield.
If you have not yet called, call Governor Quinn’s office NOW at, 312-814-2121 and ask him to stand with family farmers and food freedom!
Here is a suggested script:
“Hi I am voter and citizen of Illinois and I am calling today about over the top raw milk regulations that have just been proposed by the Illinois Department of Public Health. [Talk about your experience with raw milk, i.e. do you drink it, are you a farmer or just a local food supporter]. These proposed rules are a solution looking for a problem that will hurt family farmers. Please stand with the people in calling on IDPH to fix their unnecessary and onerous proposed rules.”
