125x520LabelBuy Fresh Buy Local Central Illinois is a campaign managed by Illinois Stewardship Alliance. It is part of a nationally-organized campaign to connect farmers and eaters and support the development of local, sustainable food systems.

Our members include farmers, farmers markets, farm-to-table restaurants, local food grocers, processors, and other venues across Central Illinois where YOU can find and purchase locally-grown food.

In an effort to better connect farmers and eaters, the new and improved 2018 Buy Fresh Buy Local Central Illinois Print Directory was released in May of 2018 , bringing you a one-stop guide to finding the freshest local food around!

The 2018 directory features:
  • Over 100 farms, their farming practices, the products they raise, and the sales avenues where you can find their products
  • Easy-to-use map to help you locate farms and local food businesses in your area
  • Searchable Index. Looking for grass-fed beef? Certified Organic farms? Leg of lamb? Check out the new index at the front of the directory to help you quickly find what you’re looking for.
  • More than 30 farmers markets, restaurants, retailers, institutions, and distributors  that have pledged to source locally whenever possible.

When you purchase from any of the members listed in this directory, you can feel confident that you are supporting local businesses,  a healthy environment, and a more just food system.

  • Use of BFBL marketing materials, including signs, labels, and advertising templates.
  • Assistance with marketing, including farm and restaurant profiles that will be included on the Illinois Stewardship Alliance website,  BFBL website, and e-newsletters, as well as event marketing through Illinois Stewardship Alliance’s social media networks.

*ELIGIBILITY INFO: Farm or Business must be located in one of the following counties: Knox, Stark, Fulton, Peoria, Marshall, Woodford, McLean, Livingston, Ford, Iroquois, Mason, Tazewell, Champaign, Vermillion, Cass, Menard, Logan, Dewitt, Piatt, Douglas, Edgar, Coles, Moultrie, Shelby, Macon, Christian, Sangamon, Montgomery, Macoupin, Morgan, Jersey, Greene, Scott and Calhoun.

Farms: Eligible for membership are farmers that grow or raise foods or other agricultural products (e.g. ornamental plants, bedding plants or Christmas trees) in Central Illinois primarily for consumption in that same region. The main market for products promoted with BFBL Central Illinois materials must be in the designated chapter region. BFBL Central Illinois products must be traceable to a specific farm BFBL Central Illinois materials should be used only for locally grown products. BFBL Central Illinois members who also sell non-locally produced items are expected to take care that such products are properly labeled to distinguish them from local foods. e.g. Missouri Peaches. Sustainable practices are encouraged and preferred and/or a plan to become sustainable. Click here to read more about sustainable practices.

Other Business: Eligible for membership are businesses (Farmers Markets, Restaurants, Retailers, Institutions, Other) that buy from BFBL member farmers for food preparation or resale. A commitment to purchasing and promoting local foods should be a stated marketing strategy/message or value/principle of the business.Membership requires participation in an annual survey to demonstrate a commitment to local purchasing and gauge economic impact. BFBL materials should be used only for foods that feature BFBL farm-produced ingredients. It is expected that BFBL materials not be used in a misleading manner.
