The Illinois Stewardship Alliance Annual Meeting will take place from 10am-4pm. This is your chance to network with farmers and local food leaders across the state, hear highlights from our members, enjoy a locally sourced lunch, and provide input on future work. The Annual Meeting will also feature three breakout sessions, providing further opportunities to explore topics of interest, as well as network and collaborate with other individuals with similar interests.

2:00 – 4:00 Break-out Sessions

Session I – Grassroots Policy Advisory Committee

The Grassroots Policy Advisory Committee breakout session is a way to get involved with and help guide ISA’s policy advocacy work. The breakout session will include an in depth review of 2015 legislative and policy activities and achievements, along with a look towards 2016 at what important and potential policy and legislative work is on the horizon both at the state and federal levels.

Session II – Conservation Connections: Small Grains for Soil Health

This discussion will be on the roles that small grains can play in local watersheds to improve both economic viability and improve environmental sustainability through a more diverse type of cropping system that fosters soil health at the same time as it promotes farm to community health in its use of local markets. Most small grains are being used in an ever growing cover crop seed market as well as in an emerging local food market.  Come explore the many different uses that small grains could play in sustaining our farming communities.

Session III:  Collaboration in the Kitchen: A Hands-On Chopped Workshop

Local food work takes shape in many different forms and through many different types of organizations throughout Illinois. With limited funding pools and resources, often times it is easy to become so involved in one’s one work and individual missions that we lose sight of the overall goal, creating a better food system. This hands on “chopped” style activity emphasizes the importance of teamwork and collaboration, giving individuals a chance to work together to create an amazing dish from 3 mystery ingredients while also reminding us that a collaborative perspective can be a force for good, creating greater awareness and change within local food systems.

Our Membership Appreciation Reception, featuring appetizers by 5 Flavors Catering (plus two free drink tickets for members) will follow immediately after the meeting from 4:30pm-6:30pm at Erin’s Pavilion. Our annual Membership Appreciation Reception is our way of saying thank you to all of our members and supporters – we wouldn’t be here without you!  Addtionally, this year we invite you to celebrate the end of the year and the end of an era with Illinois Stewardship Alliance as we say farewell to our executive director of the past 3 years, Wes King, and as we toast to the holiday season and many happy returns.
